It's a BAD BOO-BOO

So...we had a mishap yesterday.

Danika has been refusing to wear her mittens, so lately I have been telling her that when she doesn't wear her mittens or gloves, she has to put her hands in her pockets. She is pretty willing to do this, and it seemed like a happy compromise for both of us. That is, until yesterday morning.

We had the mitten fight on the way to daycare, I settled for my usual compromise, and we got out of the van to walk into the building. We got about half-way there, and my precious little girl tripped and fell flat on her face. It was like I could see it happening in slow motion, but I just couldn't reach her in time. And...since her hands were in her pockets, she couldn't catch herself. She hit the cement face first. I knew it wasn't going to be pretty, but when I scooped her up, her mouth was full of blood and she was terrified.

Long story short, while initially it looked like she put her teeth all the way through the upper lip, after we got the bleeding stopped, we realized she didn't. She put a deep gash on the inside, and she got several cuts on the outside from the cement. Mommy had to take the day off work to comfort and cuddle the little bug, but it all turned out all right. She got to eat a lot of popsicles and jello and she liked that. :)

By late afternoon, she was even pretty good natured about it. I asked her to show me her boo-boo and she puckered her lips right up and pointed inside. I asked if I could take some pictures and she said, "Yep." So...I did.

The Dress Up Girl

This is a common occurrence in our house now. Anytime I leave my closet door ajar, a little elf climbs in and grabs a pair of my shoes and claims them as her own. The shoes are different every time, but the laughter it causes her parents is pretty much the same. :)

Along with the new shoe obsession, she has also taken a new interest in dressing up. This is a glimpse of her Snow White costume. So much fun! I love having a little girl!!!! :)

She's pretty pleased with herself. :)

Sssssoooo sssssssplendid!

A few weeks ago we were at a friends house and they have a pet snake. They were kind enough to get the snake out and let the kids each take a turn petting/holding the snake. Danika was SO excited! She loved it! And once she got to pet it, I couldn't get her to stay out of the way to get pictures of the other kids...she kept wanting her turn again. :)

Danika is actually petting the snake's head. She was so happy and excited that I had to keep a close eye on her so she didn't hurt it by squeezing it too hard.

So...apparently my daughter is not afraid of snakes. Now if Doug can just teach her not to be afraid of spiders like her mom, we will be all set. :)

NOT a morning person

Occasionally Danika takes too long of a nap in the afternoon and I have to wake her up otherwise she won't be able to sleep at night when she needs to. The last time I had to do this, I thought it would be fun to take my camera in with me. Following are a few examples of how happy she is NOT when she wakes up from a nap. :)

We were recently buried in snow. We bought Danika her first pair of boots and snowpants and took her out to play. :)

Just a few days before, it was still warm and Doug was giving Danika her first lawn mower ride. She loved it!

Latest Projects...

First things first.
Doug recently finished the project I posted about a long time ago.
He was building bookshelves with pillars to divide the living room and dining room in this house.
He did a great job and the finished product looks AWESOME. :) Way to go honey!

And in even more recent news, Doug finally got a cap and ladder rack for his truck. It looks good and it will make carrying things with the truck a lot more practical. :) Both Danika and I are thrilled that we can get in the truck now without unloading 50 tons of tools. :)

Well...we are off to Thanksgiving!

As your cat, I must tell you I hate you.

We have a cat. His name is Martin.

Martin adores Doug, worships Doug, follows Doug around and begs to just be near him.

Martin hates me.

If he could talk, I have no doubt he would actually tell me he hates me. I work from home, and that cat is in the same house with me all day long. He does not even bother to pretend to be awake. But I know Doug is turning onto our street with his truck because I can hear the cat jump to the floor and race for the door so he can be waiting for Doug when he pulls in.

So, the other day, I got a new camera for work. I needed to practice and figure out the settings, but of course nobody was home with me...except Martin. So...I woke him up and prodded him to move and took pictures of him.

Let me say it again: he hates me. Lest you doubt me...please see the look of hatred he is giving me in all of these pictures..... :)

Martin now awake, annoyed, and irritated there is a flash going off in his face.

"I am warning you one last time....put the camera down and go back upstairs."

"I have been forced to climb on this table to be closer to your eye level so that once again I can deliver the death stare to you."

That weekend, Doug took a nap on Sunday and Martin immediately found a home tucked in Doug's arm. I just know he is thinking..."What part of I hate you don't you understand? Can't you see I'm with my real owner now? GO AWAY!"

:) My only consolation is that as much as Martin hates me, he hates Danika even more. :)

Just too much fun...

Our life has been filled with just too much fun lately and we haven't had any time to blog.

Kristen and her kids were here to visit for a week...this picture pretty much sums up how much Danika loves "Layna".

They were SO cute together!

Trick Or Treat 2008

Danika was a fuzzy little chick for Trick or Treat this year. First we took her around to see family, then on Friday night we actually took her trick-or-treating with friends in Edinboro for the first time. She had a ball! Here are some pics!
